Carbon Sync Observations WA

Observation from Carl Smith, Carbon Sync Business Development Manager at Colin Thexton farm in Northcliffe WA.

During my visit to Colin Thexton’s family properties in Northcliffe, WA, I was struck by the vitality of the land. The soil was rich, dark, and teeming with life, showing clear signs of healthy living systems. The grass roots reached deep into the earth, displaying the appearance of dreadlocks—a testament to the active presence of glomalin and exudates. This vibrant root structure was a clear indicator of a thriving ecosystem beneath the surface.

The farm boasted a rich humus layer, with earthworm activity providing further evidence of its health. I was particularly impressed by the recent results from the UQ soil carbon samples. Out of the 40+ farms I have visited, Colin’s farm recorded the highest Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) levels, a remarkable achievement.

The UQ research covered more than 800 farms across Australia and Carbon Sync had 40 of those tickets.

This success can be attributed to the farm’s commitment to holistic management practices, supported by the use of an organically certified biostimulant “TM Agricultural” (“Terra Mend”). While my observations were primarily visual, the SOC results confirmed the accuracy of what I saw. Colin’s farm is a shining example of sustainable and regenerative agriculture at its best.

10 Years ago, the soil at Colins’ Family property look exactly like the sandy soil in the background behind the fence line. His soil today is a rich dark colour full of Life, humus, organic matter and carbon.
