In 2021, Nathan from Gympie QLD had a problem with his dam water. Conditions were very dry, and the dam level had dropped to a low level. The water took on a pungent smell and the dam was literally dead. Cattle were drinking from the dam and a pod used to supply a trough quickly became lined with black sludge. The same problem was being experienced with the irrigation lines.

Nathan had previously used some TM Agricultural (TM Ag) on the orchard. It was suggested to him that he might try treating the dam with some of that TM Ag, holding the belief that it would replenish the oxygen level in the water and discourage the black sludge. The dam was treated with a couple of litres of TM Ag and over quite a short period of time the water became much clearer, smelt better and the sludge was reduced.

This season (2025) , nonstop rain early in the year appeared to encourage a new problem in the dam. The picture taken on May 26^th clearly shows the total surface area of the dam covered in a heavy algae growth, clearly having a detrimental effect on the water quality. Nathan had enquired about treating this and it was decided to use TM Lagoon Treat to attempt to manage the problem.

The application was by pressure spray from the edge of the dam, applying TM Lagoon Treat at 1ltr/2mgl dam capacity. The dam was estimated at 10mgl. 5 Litres of product was mixed with adequate water and sprayed across the dam surface with a pressure sprayer.

The first picture, taken on May 26^th was a few days after the application. Some browning of the very green algae growth offered some encouragement. The second picture was taken on June 5th  when approximately 40% of the surface area was clear and the wind was actually moving the growth around the dam surface. The final pictures show the dam surface completely clear of growth and the dam has taken on a new life, with no odours or other issues.
